SSE Wildcats heads to Frome

Frome Town Youth Football Club are excited to announce that we have been selected by Somerset FA to host an SSE Wildcats centre here in Frome. We are looking forward to working with Somerset FA to introduce even more girls from Frome and the surrounding area to Football. The club currently has over 35 girls registered with girls coming from outside of the town including Shepton and Bradford On Avon to train & play matches with us every week.

More details will be available in the next few days.

"The FA and SSE have launched an initiative designed to inspire girls aged between 5-11 to be involved in football.
SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres provide girls with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun and engaging environment. 200 centres were established across England in 2017 and a further 800 are in place for 2018.
The sessions take place on a weekly basis, either after school or at weekends, subject to each local organiser. They provide a safe environment for girls to have fun engaging with football, make new friends, develop fundamental skills, try a variety of sessions and create foundations for a lifelong love of sport.
Alongside the football activities there will also be opportunities for the attending parents, carers and siblings to engage with sport at the same time through ‘Family Sessions’, e.g. Soccercise/Walking football.
Each SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centre is run in conjunction with local County FAs utilising qualified coaches and local facilities to offer girls a location nearby where they can get involved.
SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football has been established in partnership with SSE, supporters of girls’ football participation and sponsor of the SSE Women’s FA Cup, with support from UEFA, FIFA and The Youth Sport Trust."

By securing sister club status one of the benefits the club now have is access to home match day tickets and are hopeful of taking players from across all teams to matches for the remainder of the 2017/18 season. Coaches Wanted

As we look forward to the 2018/19 season we again begin to look for coaches and assistants for our new age groups and also some existing teams.

Does your child currently come along to our kids club and will be moving up to our under 7s next season? If so then now is a great time to get involved as we can show you the ropes up until August giving you plenty of time to look at taking on an FA level 1 in coaching, after this the club will continue to support you both at training and on a match day as well as any other training you may be interested in undertaking.

Does your daughter currently train on a Monday with our 40+ girls? We currently have an U13s & U11s teams but are in a position to expand this even further but we need willing volunteers to help us to continue expanding this section of the club.

If you would like to get involved with an age group which already has a coach please feel free to contact us and we can put you in contact with the coach so you could get involved.

No matter what level of football "experience" you have we will be able to support you with any qualifications. Many of our coaches come from non footballing backgrounds.

All volunteers will be offered the opportunity to come along to training once the relevant FA checks are completed to see if you are happy to join our expanding coaching group, without coaches we are unable to maintain the expansion of our FA Chartered Standard club.

So if you or anyone you know would like to get involved please contact either Chris Wilkinson or Sarah Davis and we will happily point you in the right direction, and give you more details as to what’s involved.

Temporary winter training details

Updated 24th September

As you may be aware Frome Sports Centre are currently having issues with the resurfacing of the outdoor astro pitch area. We have been informed that upon taking up the original surface they discovered drainage issues that they were previously unaware of. This has meant that we will not be able to use them until the end of October at the earliest.

As a club we have looked at several venues to hold winter training until we can get back onto the astro. We are all aware of the lack of high quality facilities in Frome, but thanks to Frome Community College we are able to use their floodlight basketball courts, whilst they are not perfect they allow us to continue to train now the nights are getting darker.

U14 Girls win National Title

Frome Town Youth under-14 girls finished off their season in spectacular style by winning the Aces Nationals tournament in Leicester.

12 clubs who had won their respective regional leagues were invited to compete in the prestigious pre-season tournament.

In a group-style draw – with each team representing their nearest city – Youth found themselves placed in a league with teams representing Doncaster, Walsall, Northampton, Sunderland and Margate.

With the top four progressing to the quarter finals they came away with three wins, one loss and a draw, putting them third in their group and facing Manchester in the quarter finals.

Playing 12 minutes each way, Frome controlled the game from the very start and never looked like losing.

A superb hat-trick by Megan R secured their place in the top semis where they faced Doncaster Belles, the team they lost to in the group stages.

In a close contest, Frome went ahead with a Chloe Gilroy goal in the first half.

Doncaster came out fighting in the second period and Youth found themselves on the back foot, but superb defending by Rhianna, Rosie Macy and fine goalkeeping from Molly Frome kept them out.

A second goal from Gilroy seemed to put the game out of Doncaster's reach, but with four minutes to go their persistence paid off and they halved the deficit.

Youth held on, however and found themselves facing Walsall in the final.

Megan D, Martha, Ellie and Ella worked extremely hard to release Chloe and Megan R and were rewarded with a great ball to Megan Robinson, who scored the only goal.

Presentation 2015

Frome Town Youth welcomed Welsh internationals Helen Bleazard and Steph Williams to their annual presentation at Frome Rugby Club.

All players aged between four and 16 were presented with a memento from the Yeovil Town Ladies duo before every age group reflected on their season and were awarded individual trophies/

The Ray Stride Memorial Cup, for outstanding contribution to the club by a young volunteer, went to sisters Lauren and Keeley Berry. Their dedication to helping coach the under-8 to under-10 girls sides throughout the season, as well as taking part in a successful 24-hour fundraising bakeathon, were highlighted and warmly applauded by a packed room.

The Kevin Lucas Memorial Cup for outstanding contribution to Youth was awarded to club stalwart Tony Seviour.

Having helped coach his two sons' respective age groups, he has also regularly on hand to help in other areas for the club, including mowing pitches and taking on refereeing duties. Frome Town Youth would like to thank Yeovil Town Ladies, Frome Rugby Club and all the coaches, parents, players and supporters for a fantastic presentation and season.

FTY Tournament 2013

Our 15th annual tournament was held on the 10/11/12 May at West Woodlands showground. Over 100 teams joined 25 FTY teams across 13 age groups to take part in a 6 a side competitive format, as well as a 5 a side friendly festival of football.

We are grateful to Frome Mayor, Pippa Goldfinger for getting proceedings underway and blowing the first whistle at 6pm on Friday evening. The U15s and U16s competition sponsored by Sydenhams and Platinum respectively saw Bath City Yth pipping FTY to the post in the U15s and Shepton United just edging Biddlestone Youth in the U16s.

Brian Futcher of Cut & Tidy Garden Services was proud sponsor of the youngest age group and the 2 fair play winners in the U7s were Ashctt Youth Bulls and Alderbury Panthers. In the Futurform U9 age group, plate winners were Bath Arsenal Pumas after a narrow 1-0 victory over Frome Town Youth White. The U9 Cup winners were Bath City Youth who beat Bridgwater Wolves 1-0 in the final. Timdavis.org.uk sponsored the U9 girls festival and presented a Fair Play award to Bristol Ladies Union as well as participation medals to all the competitors. On Saturday afternoon the U11, U13 and U14 girls put on a fine display of football. The Inlay Management Services U14 girls final saw Corfe Mullen beat Melksham United 2-0 to win for the 2nd year running. Corfe Mullen came out on top in The Carpet Shop U13 final beating Timsbury Allstars 1-0. In the U11 M&P Logistics final Bath Arsenal Jnrs were victorious over Westfield Youth.

Sunday's proceedings were kicked off at 9:30am with the U14 and U12 Girls followed by the U8 festival of football at 10am. Corsham Jaguars beat FTY U14 to lift the winners trophy kindly sponsored by Rodney Gouldbourne. The Connor Construction U12 girls winner was Swindon Spitfires after edging Melksham Black out in the final. In the U8 Valley Transport Services Ltd awarded Pewsey Vale and Holcombe Youth with the Fair Play awards. Sunday afternoon saw the U10 and U12 play to round up an exciting weekend of football. The West Town Moccasin U12 Winners and Runners Up were Bath Arsenal Red and Chilcompton Yellow respectively. Such was the quality of the teams, the U10 final stages in both the Plate and Cup competition went into extra time in both the semi-final and final. The DP Evans Plumbing & Heating Plate winner and runners up were Wincanton Town and FC Bath White. The MGK Carpentry & Construction Cup winners and runners up were Whitchurch Pumas and FC Bath Blue.

The club would to thank their main sponsor Steve Morgan of Frome Printing Company for his continued support and would like to extend thanks to all the referees who covered the 8 pitches throughout the 3 days. Congratulations to Sam Gurner who won the 19" TV 1st prize in the raffle. All proceeds from the tombola will be donated to the Rustell family.

The event was a great success and the money raised will ensure our membership fees remain the lowest in the area and our age groups benefit from new training equipment and kit.

Frome Town Youth Girls go to Huish Park

A coach load of U9, U12 and U14 girls went to Huish Park, Yeovil on Sunday 13th January. U14 Ellie Forrester and U12 Martha Peet were the 2 lucky club players picked to be player mascots and accompany goalkeeper Bethany Howard and defender Rosie Williams onto the pitch before the start of the game.

A record crowd of 620 witnessed Yeovil Town Ladies take on Leeds United Ladies in the last 16 of the FA Premier League Cup. Although the home team were a league below visiting Leeds United LFC, Yeovil played much the better football and were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to a lobbed goal in the second half.

All the girls really enjoyed the match and the occasion and are keen to support more of the FA Women’s Premier League (Southern) side’s games soon.

January 2013

Somerset FA Junior Leaders Course

Nine Frome Town Youth and six Frome Town players aged between 12 and 16 took part in a day long Junior Football Leader course at Badgers Hill, Frome on Monday 29th October.

FA tutor, Rachael Edwards delivered the same course to 17 teenagers in the February half term and the response from these teenagers prompted both clubs to organise another course for more young volunteers interested in giving something back to their clubs.

Frome Town Council awarded Frome Town Youth FC £300 in the latest round of funding allocations and as a result the 9 FTY players attended the course absolutely free of charge.  A club spokesperson said "The children got so much from the first course we organised, we wanted to make it a regular opportunity for our 12-16 year olds to get involved with.  Thanks to the grant, we've managed to achieve that goal and a total of 32 Frome children have taken their first step into coaching, refereeing and football event organisation.  Which is fantastic!"

Thanks to Rachael Edwards from Somerset FA for delivering the course, Frome Town for hosting it and to the 15 children for giving up a day of their half term holiday to take part in it.
